What is finding

food?

Hey there,

Welcome to Finding Food, a website that makes home cooking into easy gourmet cooking. Here are some questions so you get to know the website, Finding Food and the person behind it.

The journey

It all started on May of 2016, when my sister and I were joking around about making a Youtube channel or a Blog. After laughing and joking around we came to the conclusion that it wasn't that bad of an idea. We joked about the names, first we wanted to name it Two Ducklings, but we settled for finding.food. A name that not only represented home cooking but also the journey of finding food around the world.

Who are you?

Finding Food was established in Guadalajara, Mexico. I am a passionate foodie, that not only loves to cook, but also try new things.

Why did you start finding food?

I started Finding Food as a hobby. Where I  could upload pictures of the food I made. My friends and family members would always ask for the recipes or to see what I had been cooking (I always posted snapchats of my food). So nonetheless, I made an Instagram page. After one year of uploading pictures, and once in awhile recipes, I was eager to create a website that was more established; where cooking was made for all.

Recipes

The goal of the recipes that I create is to make them gourmet, but also easy to recreate. Most of the recipes are under 30 minutes, or recipes that don't take a lot of effort or time.

Food Photography and styling

Truthfully, I have never been a photographer, my sister always made fun of me for taking the pictures crooked; but those were landscape pictures or profile pictures. But for food photography it was quite different, I just want to show the food at its best and make people salivate when they see the picture.
I just watched Youtube videos that explained food photography and the basics, and how it can be done without studio lights and a professional camera.

I style the food with what I have, I like to have different backgrounds and plates. Just like me, my mom is a big foodie, so we have different plates and silverware that goes with several cuisines. I use my kitchen counter which is granite, a block of marble, wood planks, plywood sheets or even the table of my dinning room which is black. I always say less is more and what really has to stand out is the food.

All of the pictures are taken with an iPhone, either with an iPhone 6 plus or an iPhone 7 plus and usually with natural light or the lights from my kitchen that are special to not create a shadow.

What is the inspiration?

I am inspired by BuzzFeed, trending food, Tasty Videos, several food bloggers and my personal favorite cuisine; Asian.

I usually get inspired by  Instagram; I follow countless pages on Instagram that include food from all over the world and different eating regimes. Like vegan or vegetarian or paleo or carnivore. I believe that the best thing is to have a balance, so I like to cook all types of things. That way I'm always inspired to do new things and not get bored with one thing and keep on experimenting.

My biggest inspiration is mom, she is the one that showed me everything I know about the kitchen, so whenever I am low on ideas I go to her and we discuss about new inventions, dishes and fusion.

What can you always find in your kitchen?

What you can always find in my kitchen are noodles, soy sauce, spring onions, rice, ajinomoto, some type of  fish, cucumbers, lemons, miso paste; mostly asian products. Truthfully most of the things that are in my pantry and that I always have in stock are asian I don't know why, but I like to believe that in my other life I was born in an Asian country, it is like my comfort food. But still there's always tortillas, avocados, cold cuts and cheese (my dad loves it) and any type of Mexican salsa; oh and cooked beans or chickpeas. And for a drink; my favorite, hibiscus flower iced tea, I can't go a day without drinking this tea.

About me

I am Blanca, an aspiring chef who is still in high school, I am a senior actually. I was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, and I am totally devoted to Mexican culture. I love my country, the diversity, the food, the people… everything.

I started cooking because of my mom, one of first memories that I can recall of me cooking, was peeling countless kilograms of shrimp for parties. I had to stand up in a chair because I wasn’t tall enough to get to the faucet.

I plan to study culinary arts, probably abroad. Some of my hobbies include, cooking, food photography, ceramics, watching Youtube videos or Netflix,  going to coffees with my friends and going out with them or having my friends over at my house.

Favorite recipes

So far from the recipes that I have created some of my favorites include the chicken noodle soup, the chickpea sandwich, the 5 spice ribs, the granola and the sushi burger.

Favorite bloggers, youtubers and chefs

My two favorite chefs of all time are an English chef that is world known and has countless Michelin stars and several tv shows; you probably guessed him, yes, the man the curses a lot;  Gordon Ramsay. My other favorite chef is Paulina Abascal, a Mexican baker that makes some of the best desserts I have ever seen. She is the first chef that I ever watched on tv, on a channel called El Gourmet and I always fell in love with her baking goods.

Some of my favorite bloggers are: Lauren Toyota she has a Youtube channel with her boyfriend called HotforFood. Also Tess Begg an Australian foodie that makes some of the best vegan easy and quick recipes, actually these two food bloggers are vegan. I also really like Laura Vitale, she has a Youtube channel and a webpage called LauraintheKitchen, she was the first Youtuber that I ever watched. I also really like a guy from SortedFood called Ben Ebbrell and another english chef called Jamie Oliver, I love how ingenious they are and how they make everything different.

Finally just for fun, some foodie channels on Youtube that I quite enjoy, are FoodTales by Trinity and Bo. And also, I quite enjoy a series called WorthIt on BuzzFeedVideo.
